Asbestos Management Surveys (previously Type 1 & 2 Asbestos Surveys)
An Asbestos Management Survey is the starting point of your asbestos management plan, and is the standard survey that is required to manage asbestos within properties. Elan Environmental Ltd have an experienced team of asbestos surveyors working across Belfast and Northern Ireland.
Asbestos Management Surveys seek to identify the location of any asbestos or asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in your building. This can involve taking samples in presumed locations to confirm the presence of asbestos. Following this, asbestos testing will assess the condition of any ACMs and determine their ability to release fibres into the air if disturbed.
Once all of the information has been gathered, an Asbestos Register will detail the results of your survey, containing the location amount and condition of any asbestos containing materials within a building.
Asbestos surveys often involve minor intrusive work and some disturbances to facilitate foreseeable maintenance and related activities.
Refurbishment/Demolition Surveys (previously Type 3 Asbestos Surveys)
A refurbishment and demolition survey is needed before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This type of asbestos survey is used to create a report that will locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all asbestos-containing materials in the area where the refurbishment work will take place, or in the whole building in the case of demolition.
This type of asbestos survey is fully intrusive and involves destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach. A refurbishment and demolition survey may also be required in other circumstances - for example, when more intrusive maintenance and repair work will be carried out or for plant removal or dismantling.
Asbestos Monitoring & Management
If you have identified asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) within your premises then, as part of your duty to manage, you are required to re-inspect each ACM on a regular basis, regardless of its condition and location. Working closely with our clients on a consultancy basis, we can devise appropriate re-inspection programs, undertake these asbestos inspections and update your asbestos register accordingly. Where necessary, site drawings from the asbestos survey report can also be updated.
